Woman Lived 7 Years With Towel Inside Body
Bonnie Valle lived the last seven years of her life with a towel the size of a large hand towel lodged behind her left lung. The towel was discovered upon autopsy and had been left there during a 1995 surgery for emphysema.
Valle complained of chest pains for seven years after her surgery, saying she felt there was something in her body pressing on her lungs.
The hospital claimed the woman suffered no ill health effects from the towel and the judge dismissed claims against the doctor. The family settled with the hospital for an undisclosed sum.
This unaccountable doctor made the following statement in 2004 after the media reported on the case:
"She lived seven
years ... which is certainly as well as one would have expected her to survive
given her severe emphysema and poor pulmonary function and overall
condition."
What exactly would have
made this doctor accountable? Leaving a beach towel in the woman's body?
Akala Dares Ajimobi On L.G Election in Oyo Akala Dares Ajimobi On Oyo L.G Election
Former Gov.of Oyo
State Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala yesterday in Ibadan challenged Gov.
Abiola Ajimobi-led administration in the state to conduct council poll as a
test of the government’s popularity in the state.
Akala, who was a special guest at the Ibadan Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) forum said the PDP would win at least two-thirds of the councils should the poll be conducted.
“The Ajimobi-led administration has refused to conduct local government polls two years into their administration.
“If they are bold. I repeat, if they are bold, they should conduct the council poll to test their popularity.
“I am very sure that the PDP will win at least two-third of the local government councils in the state,” he said.
He said the present government in the state had instilled pains on the people through its demolition exercise, adding that the PDP administration would never do such.
The former governor, who said the Oyo people were waiting for the PDP in 2015, said all grievances within the party would be resolved before the next meeting.
Former ministers, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, and Chief Wole Oyelese in their messages urged members of the party to join hands in building the party, adding that the government in the state would return to PDP in 2O15.
Oyelese said that insincerity within the party should be eschewed while a level playing ground be embraced to give all a sense of belonging.
Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, former PDP National Deputy Chairman, said the party would only thrive when unity existed within it.
Mr Yinka Taiwo, the Oyo PDP Chairman, urged members to disregard the factional meeting held at Yemetu in Ibadan, adding that there was no faction in the Oyo PDP.
“Those who organised the factional meeting are our brothers and sisters. There is only one PDP and here it is.
“We’ve been reaching out to them and all will be resolved very soon,” Taiwo said.
Chief Olayiwola Olakojo, former Secretary to Oyo State Government, attributed the internal wranglings in the PDP to the members enlightenment on their rights

Blackout at Lagos MM Airport
A blackout Monday night at
Nigeria’s Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos forced the diversion of an Emirates
Flight EK781, an Airbus A340-500 from Dubai, United Aab Emirates (UAE), to the
airport in Lome, Togo.
According to reports, the aircraft was scheduled to land in Lagos at 7.44pm and had rolled its tyres out for landing when electricity supply suddenly went off at the airport. The blackout and heavy rain left the pilot with no other choice than to abort the landing and head for Lome.
The plane however returned several hours later, making a safe landing at about 11p.m.
There was reportedly a second blackout, after the passengers and crew had disembarked into the airport terminal.

CAN Blasts Sultan of Sokoto for Asking Amnesty for Boko Haram
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar (III), on Tuesday asked President Goodluck Jonathan to grant members of the dreaded Islamist militant group, Boko Haram “total amnesty” for the sake of peace in the country.
Blaming the security challenges confronting the country on injustice “meted out to the people,” he said the muslim community in Nigeria was concerned about the spate of bombings and killings by Boko Haram members, especially in the North.

Sultan Abubakar, who is the spiritual head of Muslims in Nigerian, argued that a presidential amnesty to even one member of the sect, could make others to lay down their arms for peace.
Abubakar spoke at the meeting of the Central Council of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam in Kaduna.
“Ours is to advise and we will continue advising the government. If they do what they are supposed to do, that would be fine,” he said, adding that one of the primary duties of government was to ensure the protection of the citizenry.
But in a swift reaction, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, flayed the call by the Sultan, saying it was an indication that he knows the members of Boko Haram.
“Maybe the Sultan knows the Boko Haram members. If he is seeking amnesty for them, it shows that he knows them, because you cannot call for amnesty for people you don’t know,” General Secretary of CAN, Dr. Musa Asake, said.
Dr. Asake added, “All we have been asking is: who are these people? They are faceless people but if someone is calling for amnesty for them, it shows that such a person knows them and if he knows them and calling for amnesty, then there is a problem.
“If the Sultan knows the Boko Haram members, is he saying that Boko Haram members are fighting a just cause? Will they actually receive the amnesty wherever they are? Are they going to accept the amnesty since we don’t really know them? If we get answers to the above, CAN will be able to make further comment.”

My Mum Sold Akara to Educate Me –– Nollywood Actor Reveals

Beyond revisiting old wounds, controversial actor, Emeka Ike, reflects on his life. The actor and factional head of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria was a special guest of V Channel, a new pay TV in Lagos, last Friday. When asked to relate his experience as a factional president of the AGN, he let loose a canon, saying “I really don’t care about the AGN because it cannot put food on my table or pay my bills.”
Speaking on his personal experiences in life, Emeka Ike said:
“Some people think that I am a trouble maker. They think I am a bad boy in the movie industry. But that is not who I am. I hate injustice and I fight for the oppressed whenever I can. I will give you an illustration.
“One day, I was passing by Oshodi Bridge when I saw a physically challenged person struggling with a policeman. I had to pull over immediately and confront the policeman, though he was armed. I succeeded in stopping the fight. This is the kind of things I do.
“I believe in hard work. I don’t date rich women for money. I believe that you can become a millionaire by selling akara. My mother sold akara to train me and I am a millionaire today.”The actor, who wants to be remembered for his humanitarian deeds, would like to see Nollywood witness a radical shift in terms of the language of production. He wants films to be produced in indigenous languages and actors to be proud of their cultural heritage.
“We should be making more films in Igbo, Yoruba, Itsekiri, Efik and other Nigerian languages. I don’t like it when we speak English all the time and try to imitate the American accent,” he said.

This was the welcome to camp treatment the Corpers got for arriving a bit late at the Nasarawa State NYSC camp. I wonder why the soldiers should subject them to this kind of treatment? They don't even know if any of the corpers is having medical issue(s) or something.
Recall that it was in this same Nasarawa State that about four students of the state's institution was shot dead by soldiers during a peaceful protest.
Please, the federal government should send a strong warning to the military guys in Nasarawa, especially the ones "relating" with students and corpers to avoid another ugly incident.

Father ties, locks up six-year-old daughter for witchcraft
from Punch
A 42-year-old father, Mr. Edet Etok-Akpan, is currently being quizzed at the headquarters of the Cross River State Police Command in Calabar for torturing his six-year-old daughter, Edidiong, as a result of a church prophetess’ pronouncement that the girl was a witch.
Edidiong was beaten by her father and locked up in a room with her hands, mouth and face bound for four days before she was rescued by neighbours.
Edidiong was beaten by her father and locked up in a room with her hands, mouth and face bound for four days before she was rescued by neighbours.
It was learnt that Etok-Akpan started beating her on February 19 after an unidentified prophetess in their church told him that Edidiong was the witch responsible for the stagnancy in his life.
Narrating her ordeal to PUNCH Metro on Monday, Edidiong said after the beatings which lasted for some days, her father on February 21 tied her hands with a cord and bound her mouth with a piece of cloth.
She said, “He locked me in the inner room of our house and he never gave me food and never allowed me to go to school.”
The girl, who said she is in basic three at Femos Nursery and Primary School located at 24 Etyin Abasi Street, said she was becoming weak after days without food or water.
Luck, however, came her way on February 23, when another child, who lives with her parents in the same 42 Atakpa Street, came to their veranda to look for broom and discovered her.
Giving details of how she was rescued, a lawyer with the Basic Rights Counsel, Mr. James Ibor, said, “The girl went to Edidiong’s veranda to look for a broom and heard the sound of the girl like that of someone battling with her last breath.
“She looked through the louvers of the window and saw Edidiong bound on the floor and raised the alarm. Her parents and other neighbours rushed to the place and saw Edidiong bound inside her apartment.”
Ibor said one of the neighbours called him and he in turn informed the police.
He said, “When the policemen and I got there, we saw a crowd gathered outside. We were able to rescue the child by breaking the door.
“The girl was very weak because she had been without food for days and so we had to give her water first, then after about ten minutes we gave her milk before solid food an hour later.”
Ibor said the culprit and his wife had locked up the girl in the inner room of their two-room apartment and went to church, adding that the girl was presently living with her grandmother in another part of the town.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Umoh, said Etok-Akpan, who is from Akwa Ibom State, had been arrested and would soon appear in court to answer charges of felony.
He said, “To tie a small girl’s hand and mouth and lock her in a room for some days without food is a grievous offence, he shall soon appear in court.”
Umoh, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, warned parents to always treat their children with care, adding criminalities are increasing daily because parents had abandoned their responsibilities to their wards.
He also said the police would visit the church where the father got the prophecy.

The reason being that, the music he plays is more welcomed and accepted in other black nations and nations where Afrobeat is played and enjoyed than Nigeria.
